What is Tax Alpha?
Tax Alpha is the value created through thoughtful tax management: timing, structure, asset location, withdrawal planning and coordinated execution. The aim is to improve what you keep after tax without increasing the risk you take.
Who do you work with?
Affluent investors facing a meaningful tax event or trend: a business or real estate sale, a concentrated stock position, a job change with a large 401(k), sustained high income, or the transition into retirement. Our ideal clients plan several years ahead and are willing to involve their CPA.
Do I need to be an accredited investor?
Many of the strategies we use rely on private investments that are available only to accredited investors. Generally, that means income over $200,000 in each of the last two years ($300,000 with a spouse or partner), or a net worth over $1,000,000 not counting your primary home. Our intake form checks this first.
What does it cost?
Your proposal, with a preliminary tax savings estimate, is free. If you move forward, a flat $1,500-$2,500 planning fee covers your full Tax Savings Recommendation. Implementation, including CPA review, sponsor selection and placing investments, is billed under your Helios advisory (AUM) agreement. Details are in the Form ADV Part 2A linked below.
Will you work with my CPA?
Yes. Every recommendation is reviewed with your CPA or tax attorney before you invest, including alternative minimum tax exposure, California treatment and how the strategy fits your full return.
Do I have to move my accounts to Helios?
No. We complement other advisors and do-it-yourself investors. Many clients come to us for a specific tax moment and keep their existing relationships in place.
What are the risks?
The alternative investments behind these strategies are speculative and illiquid and can lose value, including your entire investment. Tax benefits depend on your individual facts and on tax law, which can change. Some strategies shift tax to later years rather than eliminating it. We walk through the risks of each strategy before you decide.
